The latest market report of Niko Partners assesses Asia as a strong growth market for games in the next 5 years. It is estimated that by 2025, the number of video players on PC and mobile platforms in this region will reach more than 940 million.
The Asian market surveyed by Niko Partners includes 10 countries, the territories are Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam (Southeast Asia), Chinese Taipei, Japan, Korea and India. Of these, India is the fastest growing video game.
This South Asian country has about 400 million gamers (31% of the population), or 13% of the global number of video players. However, in terms of average game hours per week, India is only third, after China and Vietnam.
In Southeast Asia, Vietnam is in the Top 3 fastest growing game markets in recent times, along with Indonesia and Thailand. Thailand alone has become a “billion dollar market” since 2020. India, Vietnam and Indonesia are expected to surpass the $1 billion mark in game revenue by 2025.
Japan and Korea are the two markets with the highest revenue in Asia, accounting for 80% of the whole region. In Asia as a whole, PC and mobile game revenue is about $35.7 billion, up 6.2% year-on-year and is expected to be close to $42 billion by 2025.
