In addition, the company plans to complete the first phase of the construction of a huge new factory by the middle of next year, and iPhone production could begin as early as this year. The investment that Luxshare makes for this project is up to 1.73 billion USD.
Through the new factory, Luxshare can significantly increase its market share in the production of iPhones for Apple. iPhone production at Luxshare’s factories is expected to increase from 6.5 million units to 12 million or even 15 million units by the end of 2022.
The source added that the new factory is about the size of 40 football fields. In addition, Luxshare has also rented and renovated a nearby factory formerly owned by Compal that assembles iPads.
Currently, Apple relies heavily on Taiwanese assemblers like Foxconn and Pegatron for most of its iPhone models, with orders from Foxconn at 60% and Pegatron at 30%.
