After months of waiting, Lego’s official Sonic the Hedgehog set will launch on the first day of 2022, priced at $70. With 1,125 assembled pieces recreating the famous Green Hill Zone with Sonic the super-fast hedgehog, along with some villains from the classic animated series like Dr. Eggman and Chaos Emeralds.

The official name of the lego set is Lego Ideas Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone, the origin of this new toy set is from the Lego Ideas set, which was suggested by Lego and Sonic fans in early 2019. After reaching 10,000 votes Elected through the Ideas program, Lego conducted an official review of the project in March 2020, and in February 2021, the company revealed the proposal to develop into an actual toy set.

Outside Sonic and Mario are two of the most popular franchises, other game related Lego Ideas for titles like Legend of Zelda, Metroid and other classics have yet to reach the 10,000-vote threshold. However, this proves the power of community resources and is good news for those who have spent their childhood memorable with Genesis or Mega Drive games.
