Follow Engadget, the report says that many Exchange users have been seeing their work email inboxes being unusually empty since January 1, 2022. Microsoft explains this stems from a bug that prevents the Exchange server from sending email, related to the error of checking the date with the change of new year and not the fault of the tool itself.
The version checks performed against the signature file caused the protection software tools to crash, resulting in messages stuck in queues that couldn’t be delivered immediately.

An emergency fix has been deployed by Microsoft that uses a PowerShell script to suspend two services, replacing the older anti-virus engine files with newer files that use the new string of numbers. The fix requires manual input and can take a long time to do for large companies.
Microsoft says this will not affect other Exchange customers. The time to carry out the fix can be chosen on a weekend, to limit the need for email usage.
