Even so, Aroged thinks that in terms of specifications, new products from Nvidia and AMD are completely disappointing even if they are new technology GPUs. This is especially so when comparing AMD’s €200 Radeon RT 6500 XT with the similarly priced RX 480 first released in 2016, or the GeForce RTX 3050 with the old GTX 1660 Ti.

Same price 200 EUR but this year’s graphics card is worse than 2016 |
Of course, there is no denying the technological advancement in the world of graphics cards. In fact, just look at the performance of the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti compared to the performance on the next generation consoles. We are talking about 40 Tflops on Nvidia’s most powerful card compared to 12 Tflops on Xbox Series X and 10 Tflops on PlayStation 5. But this advancement is not happening in the mid-range and low-cost segments, where many options are available. Choosing the cheap one can let people down.

When comparing the recently launched Radeon RX 6600 XT, it’s actually the RX 5700 XT. Now, the Radeon RX 6500 XT continues to bring this on repeat. To prove this, AMD’s own data shows that the RX 6500 XT offers 5.77 Tflops of compute performance, which is clearly lower than the 5.83 Tflops of the Radeon RX 480 – the more launched 200 EUR graphics card. 5 years ago. Not stopping there, even the bandwidth on the 4 GB version of the Radeon RX 480 is worse.
The same story seems to be repeating itself with Nvidia, with the GeForce RTX 3050 being really the GTX 1660 Ti under a different but more expensive name. Fortunately, the new card supports the much-desired DLSS technology.
