Follow Blazetrends, RAM and SSD storage are two components that use the same storage types. Computer RAM requires constant energy to keep data in memory, and if there is a power outage the data is gone but RAM is used to access needed information quickly.
Meanwhile, SSD memory is used for permanent data storage, which can keep data stored even if the power is cut off. This type of memory is called “non-volatile”.

UltraRAM technology promises to create exciting experiences for consumer devices PCWorld screen capture |
While non-volatile memory can be used for the same types of tasks as RAM, the lower speed makes it impractical for most applications. Currently, RAM and SSD storage are two separate parts that perform different functions.

The aforementioned British physicists use a new technology called “UltraRAM” that can overcome the limitation of persistent storage to use for fast read and write tasks. Applying these techniques could create “all-in-one” memory storage devices.
The team of scientists said that they have performed experiments to demonstrate some of the basic principles in operation, but UltraRAM is currently still under development and cannot be put into practice.
