According to Digitaltrends, in his comment, John Bridgman – one of AMD’s technical team staff – said on the Phoronix forum that the RX 6500 XT is actually designed for the Ryzen 6000 series of laptops, and that This is the reason why the card is not appreciated for its ability to play games on the desktop.

Radeon RX 6500 XT is the best choice for laptops with AMD Rembrandt APU APUs

“The primary use of Navi24 will be in notebooks equipped with a Rembrandt APU, full video functionality, and Gen 4 PCIe,” said Bridgman. Also according to Bridgman, the card doesn’t seem to have much to offer, be it for advertising or for gamers. It lacks support for AV1 encoding as well as decoding, which may displease content creators, and its other specs aren’t very appealing to gamers either.

The Navi 24 GPU found inside the RX 6500 XT has 5.4 billion transistors on a 107mm die. The card has 16 compute units, 16 ray tracing accelerators, 1,024 stream processors, 64 texture units, and 32 rendering units (ROP). The card also only has two display pipelines, as opposed to the four found in RDNA 2 graphics cards. Other specifications of the RX 6500 XT, including 4GB of GDDR6 memory and a 64-bit memory bus, are also available. as the clock increases up to 2,815 MHz.

Bridgman’s post may not be an official statement from AMD, but it does serve as an explanation as to why a card with such specs was released. Previously, Tom’s Hardware shared that some of the reasons AMD did this was because the company wanted to make the RX 6500 XT unattractive to cryptocurrency miners.

AMD RX 6500 XT is offered with a suggested price of 199 USD, but when the products hit the shelves, their prices are much higher with strong appeal. Pairing the RX 6500 XT with an AMD Rembrandt APU can offer some great value. AMD’s upcoming APUs already have some multimedia and graphics capabilities of their own, so the duo can work well in mid-range laptops.
