Developed at the beginning of January this year by the couple Thorne Melcher and Mandy Musselwhite, the NFT Dastardly Ducks collection launched on January 19, consisting of 10,000 duck figures randomly generated from code with more than 100 different characteristics.
According to CNBC, Melcher used to be a software engineer, so she quickly learned the Solidity programming language, which is used to develop smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain. Meanwhile, her girlfriend, Musselwhite, is a graphic artist, designing each duck in this collection. With the perfect combination of two talents, the Dastardly Ducks project was completed in just 2 weeks.

Before launching the collection, the couple was criticized online on the grounds that NFTs are harmful to the environment, as the process of creating them and using blockchain consumes a large amount of energy. Therefore, Melcher optimally programmed the smart contract, making it possible for customers to buy and create a set of 12 ducks, thereby cutting a fraction of the energy compared to creating each one.

Not only “sold out” and made a huge profit, the NFT Dastardly Ducks collection received royalties when the product was resold, earning an additional $ 6,354 from the OpenSea platform.
In addition, the collection brought both Melcher and Musselwhite many new job offers. Previously, Melcher had lost her job as a software engineer since February 2021 and the couple has a debt of $35,587 with a due date of January 20, just one day before the NFT collection goes on sale.
